| The
public river access point at Stone Cliff
provides access to fishing the New River, and is
located in the New River Gorge near Thurmond,
WV. The New River provides great fishing
for smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, striped
bass, rock bass, walleye, muskellunge,
crappie, bluegill, carp, and flathead and
channel catfish.
Float fishing: Stone Cliff often being
used as the take-out point for float fishing
trips on New River with McCreery or McKendree
used as
as the put-in point.
Notes: Due to dangerous rapids in New
River, only experienced whitewater boaters should attempt
float trips.
Access Type: Carry down for small boats.
Directions:
From U.S. Rt. 19, take the Glen Jean–Thurmond
exit and make an immediate left. Go 0.5 miles to
Glen Jean, turn right on State Rt. 25, and
follow the road 6 miles to a three-way
intersection. Bear right and travel 1.5 miles,
take a right just before reaching bridge across
New River at Stone Cliff into the Stone Cliff
access area..
