Canyon Rim Boardwalk

Walkways at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center lead to observation areas that feature vistas of the New River Gorge and the New River Gorge Bridge. A paved walkway that guides visitors to a platform overlooking the bridge is wheelchair accessible. A boardwalk off the walkway leads visitors down a strenuous, 178-stair descent to a lower observation platform.

Notes: The round-trip walk to the lower observation deck is considered strenuous. Park service officials generally recommend visitors allow a full half hour to descend and ascend its 178 stairs.

Directions

Canyon Rim Trailhead: The trailhead for the walkway and boardwalk are located at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center off US-19 north of the New River Gorge Bridge.
