Church Loop Trail

This moderately difficult hiking path leaves the Rend Trail about 0.7 miles from its Newlyn trailhead, descends into the churchyard of the First Baptist Church of Thurmond, WV, and ascends to meet the Rend Trail again. Hikers should avoid the railroad tracks near Thurmond.

Directions

Newlyn Trailhead: As the Church Loop Trail is near the Rend Trail’s Newlyn trailhead, we recommend the following directions as most convenient for hikers. From US-19 at Glen Jean, WV, turn left onto routes WV-16/WV-61 and follow 0.4 miles north to the first cross-street intersection. Turn right onto WV-21/20, and then left after 230 feet onto McKell Avenue. After another 200 feet, turn left onto Thurmond Road (WV-25). Proceed 5.1 miles to the Rend Trail parking area on the left.
