The New River Gorge hiking trail is probably not an
ideal hike for families with young children and persons
with a fear of heights. One of the wonders of the New
River Gorge, the rock outcrop long-known as Long Point
seems to thrust out into the very center of the gorge,
providing a 360-degree panorama that includes one of the
best views of the bridge. Be sure to bring your camera
and binoculars and allow time to contemplate the view
and to be very careful near the cliff edge!
Trail Rating: 1.6 miles - moderate hiking
Trailhead Information: To reach the Long Point trailhead
from Fayetteville, WV, follow W.Va. 16 south to a left
onto Gatewood Road. Follow the latter 1.9 miles to the
left onto Newton Road. Parking is about 50 yards
ahead on the left.
