Often mistakenly referred to as "Shays", the GC&R geared steam locomotive were techically a Class-B "Climax" type locomotive, with inclined cylinders, and straight boiler.

Another view of a GC&R Climax locomotive (apparently the same locomotive as in the previous photo.) The Climax type locomotives were produced by the Climax Locomotive Works, of Corry, PA.

This structure is reported to have served the GC&R as its depot in Beckley, WV Photo is looking down present-day 1st Ave., towards Neville Street and present location of the First Baptist Church.

Said to be a photo of 100-foot tunnel on the Glade Creek & Raleigh Railroad, half-way between Raleigh and Mabscott. However, other sources indicate the tunnel was likely near Crow, WV.
